IARNA Mission Statement

We aim, as an organisation to provide a forum for the dissemination of information on the subject of anaesthesia, recovery and peri-operative nursing practice. We invite all nurses and practitioners from other disciplines to actively participate in our organisation by becoming members and opening up channels of communication, both nationally and internationally. It is by sharing our knowledge, both formally and informally, through, for example, submitting articles to the Irish Journal of Anaesthetic & Recovery Nursing (IJARN), meeting at the National IARNA Conference held annually in different centres in Ireland and communicating with other allied professions, nurses and IARNA members that we, as an organisation can promote good practices, policies and procedures for the benefit of the patient and the nurse working in this specialised area.

IARNA was officially launched by the Junior Minister for Trade and Enterprise at its Inaugural Conference in the Silversprings Hotel, Cork on November 16th 2002. Since then, the association has gained a national and international status supported by an increasing membership database.

Goals for the Future: We are working toward similar goals in different countries and it is important that we continue the process of self-development through evidence-based practice acquired nationally and internationally.

Education and Learning through Safe Practice: I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all new IARNA members and colleagues. It is your association; we encourage you to actively participate in the development of an educational forum that will be a benchmark for communication incorporating ideas and feedback.
